It's quite a cliche thing for a rock band to describe their new album as 'the heavy bits are heavier and the softer bits of softer' but with Paramore's third album they've done just that. Following from a rough patch last year, it comes as no surprise that these American punk-popsters have made a much angier record; this is particually present on totally rocking opener 'Careful' and lead single 'Ignorance' which really packs a punch with its pounding drums and sharp guitars. It really seems that the band are going for a much harder and epic sound on this record and the tunes here are more than likely to get you singing at the top of your lungs on anthems-in-the-making such as 'Where The Lines Overlap', 'Brick By Borning Brick' and the glorious 'Looking Up'. Infact, the latter really seems to have a much more hopeful vibe lyrically to some of the more agressive moments on the record as front-woman Hayley Williams passionatly roars 'we're just getting started!'. Of course, theres a couple of mellower offerings on the album such as the beautiful acoustic pop tones 'Only Exception' and the gorgeous folksie picking of 'Misguided Ghosts', which is something that will really take die-hard fans by surprise, its really quite stunning. Bascially, this album is all about big rock songs, with soaring melodies and massive choruses played with alot of heart and alot of passion, and in my opinion its gonna take Paramore into the big league! Welcome back kids!Rating: 8.5/10
