Data. Select. Party - Three Pennies / Hey Zeus (Single Review)

So, I just found out about an hour ago that this brilliant indie pop quartet are splitting up! But luckily for us, before they head off into the sunset into pastures new city, they're gonna be playing a few farewell shows and have also put up two new tunes for y'all to download! And what makes matters even worse is that these two songs are utterly brilliant and if they kept penning them like this, these Brighton boys could of had quite a successful future! 'Three Pennies' starts all spaced out with delayed guitars before a cracking little riff comes in with funky bass and a strong drum groove to match. Production wise this is the best the band has ever sounded, not too lo-fi like some of their earlier demo's and not too glitterly like they're recent mini-album 'Hanging Out With Humans' (which are all still great by the way). The general sound of these recordings have this real clean feel to them without sounding over produced and' Three Pennies' in particular could be a smash with its cracking pop chrous of 'I've never realised how much I owe to the world, got me running around me circles now'. Then theres 'Hey Zeus' a slightly more urgent affair with another massive chrous of reverbed guitars and big vocals refraining 'Hey You, Hey Zeus, Killer Tracksuit'. Both tracks have this really fresh vibe about them with great harmonies and real sense of groove and melody which are the reasons why these boys will be sorely missed! Rest in peace D.S.P!

Rating: 9.5/10
